A pencil as his sole tool, Utrecht-based artist Robbie Cornelissen creates monumental fantasy worlds on the border between dream and reality.

No, it is not a carpet roll that Robbie Cornelissen unpacks in the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, but an immense pencil drawing that will soon cover the entire wall. Het grote geheugen X, this monumental and very spatial fantasy world somewhere between dream and reality is called. In het perspectief van Robbie Cornelissen is a new film in Van den Berg’s series Utrecht aan Zee, about Utrecht-based artists. By drawing, Cornelissen gets in touch with himself. He considers his drawings representations of a mental reality. The memory is a theme he has been working on for quite some time, he calmly explains, while we are immersed in his vertiginous grey pencil lines. Fragments from his animation films suck us in even further. Jungle sounds mix with the scratching of the lead. With his Zwarte kamer, he pushes the limits of drawing even further.
