Documentary about a former trader who runs a boat for the homeless. His working methods appear to be incompatible with the demands on providing shelter formulated by the official bodies.
In 2004, director Bob Entrop made The White Whale, a documentary about Lalla Weiss, spokeswoman of the national Sinti and Roma organisation. In Het wij volk, he is back with the Sinti. He follows Rinus Vos, a former trader who converted his former storage depot, a huge houseboat, into a boat for the homeless after a vagrant had frozen to death. In many cases, the residents' benefit is deposited on his account. From this, he deducts ten Euros a night. Actually, he cannot manage on this and debts run high. When steep penalties are imposed on him because the waste pipes are not connected to the sewer system, he is forced to summon the help of the authorities at city hall. There, his working methods appear to be incompatible with the demands on providing shelter formulated by the official bodies.
