This drama series shows how within one year the Dutch political landscape changed for good. PvdA party leader Ad Melkert is almost certain he will succeed Wim Kok as the Dutch Prime Minister, but everything changes when the flamboyant Pim Fortuyn enters the political arena. The new kid on the block is provocative, evokes admiration as well as fierce opposition within the political establishment and the ensuing election battle is tempestuous. Subsequent events leave deep scars in society and in all the protagonists’ personal lives.
