Director Louis van Gasteren entrusted his film archive and body of works comprising some eighty films to friend and colleague Rudolf van den Berg. In a series of interviews, the latter tries to get through to the core of Van Gasteren’s work and turbulent life, at the same time wondering why he was chosen as the biographer. Unintentionally, an ill-fated event in WW II that marked Van Gasteren’s life eventually also determines the dramatic development of the film.
