The Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) was founded by disgruntled dancers of the Nederlands Ballet. The first trailblazing performances resulted in catcalls and leaving audiences. Fifty years later, the NDT production Dissolve In This has a royal première. Een schitterend offer follows the genesis of this show and also zooms in on four dancers in various stages of their careers. In black and white, the four dancers perform a choreography that expresses what the dance company means to them. Registrations from the early days are projected onto the naked backs of Martinette and Gérard, who have been involved in the company from the start. In the present, we follow Arina, who successfully auditions for the troupe, but has to start again at the bottom, and Sandra. She dances the leading part in Dissolve In This and enjoys every minute of it, although she is completely absorbed by her profession. The series of wincing but determined faces when consulting a physiotherapist show their enormous dedication in a nutshell: anything to be able to keep on dancing.
