Een meubel om in te wonen

Director: Lex Reitsma
Furniture designer and architect Gerrit Rietveld did not build for eternity. And yet his iconic Rietveld Schröderhuis, which he built with his beloved Truus Schröder, is exactly one century old in 2024. An investigative documentary about Rietveld’s sources of inspiration, from various perspectives.
The first house Gerrit Rietveld designed in 1924, for and with his beloved Truus Schröder, was an experiment. Although Rietveld felt his creations should be demolished after fifty years at the most, this iconic structure was thoroughly restored. This documentary also shows other houses designed by Rietveld that are still treasured. The film explores Rietveld’s work from the perspective of current owners, Rietveld’s relatives and an audio interview Rietveld’s creative partner Truus gave about him in 1982.
