After a stay in a Japanese internment camp in the Netherlands East-Indies, Paula has to adapt to her Frisian family after her repatriation in 1946. Drama about looking for your identity in a distrustful environment.
The recently repatriated Paula tries to take root in Friesland in 1946, after her experiences in a Japanese internment camp. In this graduation film, she is received by relatives she has never met before. Her presence as an Indonesian-Dutch person is tolerated, but not fully accepted. Suspicion grows when, since Paula’s arrival on the potato farm, brown rot is found on one of the potatoes. Paula feels she has to survive all over again, but now she has a choice: will she choose her assigned family or her own path?
