In the period 1891-1927, Henriette Roland Holst went through a dramatic development. As a budding poet from a prosperous bourgeois environment, she plunged into the workers’ movement with great idealism and dedication. This documentary reconstructs this period, illustrated by old footage and combined with texts by Roland Holst herself: fragments from letters, poems, speeches and books, occasionally supplemented with personal comments by the filmmaker.
