Artist Robert Zandvliet struggles with the essence of his work at a time when digital images flood us. The process of searching, observing, painting and discovering, captured meticulously.
What is the meaning of a painting in the current digital image flood? Artist Robert Zandvliet looks for the essence of his work. Even something simple as painting a rock can be a lengthy process of recreating and destroying, hoping for a moment of enlightenment. In this experimental documentary, Frank Scheffer uses a Bolex camera, analogous to the old tempera technique that Zandvliet applies. The intensive process of observing, painting and reflecting, captured in detail.
