Memo is a Kurdish boy who lives with his mother and sister in Eastern Turkey. His father works in a Dutch port and then war threatens in Memo's village too, the father decides to bring them to Holland. Much to Memo's dismay and he protests against the forced move by stopping talking. Yet he becomes friends with the bookworm Jeroen, who is also an outsider in a way and the only one to accept that Memo won't talk. Sombogaart presents contemporary political ideas in a gripping way that children can understand.
