Marijke is still very young when her mother abandons the family to join a religious cult. Now, thirty years later, she tries to unravel her mother’s poignant story.
When Marijke was eight, her mother Aagje left her family for good to join Sipke Vrieswijk’s cult; the ‘Gemeente Gods’. In 1999, Vrieswijk and his chieftess Aagje were arrested and convicted for sexual abuse of minors. The daughter is still struggling with the past that is largely hushed up. By questioning witnesses and painting portraits, she tries to give her past a face after all. What exactly happened? Does Aagje have the answers Marijke is looking for?
