Five men and women dressed in orange outfits crawl through public green. They pull out the weeds. Will these people, who are far removed from the labour market, be able to sort out their own lives too?
“Weed doesn’t exist. It’s something people made up”, Erwin says to his colleagues while pulling out weeds among the shrubs beside tram rails. It’s not just the five men and women’s workwear that has an alarming orange colour. For them, too, it is code orange. Physically or mentally, it is hard to place them on the labour market, which is why they have a contract at Pantar, a social development company in the Amsterdam region that wants to push them into the right direction. If you haven’t been able to keep up with society for years, it is no easy task to find a good work rhythm again. Coaches help these people to go from code orange to code green again.
