Portrait of a group of students who in turbulent China fall back on the texts of Confucius, as a counterbalance for the Western cultural erosion and Chinese Marxism, which is spiritually inadequate.

Every Friday night, in the apartment of their philosophy professor, a group of students from the prestigious Fudan University in Shanghai gathers. Here, they study the texts of the old philosopher sentence by sentence. They belong to a small but remarkable group of Chinese who believe neither in Chinese Marxism nor in the Western free market system. Amidst the stormy developments that China goes through, they fall back on these ancient notions for some footing and reflection.
