Buitenlanders/Foreigners/Ausländer

Director: Thijs Gloger, Rene Houwen
People globally leave their native countries in hopes of a better, happier, freer, richer and perhaps even sexier life. Triptych about what it means to feel a foreigner in Veendam, New York and Berlin respectively.
All over the world, people leave their native countries in hopes of a better, happier, freer, richer and perhaps even sexier life. In this triptych, we follow three young people looking for another home and a new identity. A spoiled Russian girl is sent to Berlin by her father for a lesson in humility. A young couple in Veendam indulge in their mutual love, shortly before he will move to China. And newly arrived in New York, a young woman loses her way. Globalisation plays an interesting game with the trio, because who is ‘the other’ in a global community? In the Netherlands, Joren Molter tried to find out what it means to feel a foreigner in Veendam. Rene Houwen and Thijs Gloger did so in New York and Berlin respectively.
