How meaningful can communication without language be? Listening and improvising, the singers of the Genetic Choir use sound, rhythm and touch to make contact with elderly people with dementia.
The short documentary Beyond Words, shot in black and white, takes the viewer to a world where language is replaced by improvised sound and people reach out to each other without the mediation of words. The film follows the singers of the Genetic Choir Ensemble, who visit nursing homes and try to interact with residents suffering from dementia. By listening and improvising with sound, rhythm, touch and melody, the singers try to make contact with the elderly people. How can contact without language still be meaningful?
