Owing to Joost Prinsen’s emotional recitation of Willem Wilmink’s poem, Ben Ali Libi emerged from obscurity. Informed by archive footage and gripping testimonies, this documentary reconstructs the life and death of this Amsterdam-based Jewish comic conjurer. 'Professor Ben Ali Libi' was the pseudonym of Michel Velleman, to be hired for parties and events. During the occupation, the Nazis picked him up in a raid and he ended up, via Westerbork transit camp, in extermination camp Sobibor.
