By way of a feminist history quiz, the artist portrays 28 iconic women from world history and today, from Jeanne d’Arc and Frida Kahlo to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Anouk claims she chose the women she portrays because they were the first ones who gained recognition in their areas of expertise, who showed the courage to stand up for themselves, who took the first step towards gender equality and who are now leaders or activists. And she is up to date: the New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern, who made a deep impression after the Christchurch shooting, is among them.
