Historical short film about Anatole Deibler (1863-1939), who during his fifty-year career executed almost four hundred people. Stevens shows a day in the life of this notorious French executioner. Deibler, a taciturn man, doesn’t take much notice of the excited audience, almost tenderly clears up the remains of the drama and displays a mild-mannered side one wouldn’t expect from a hangman.
