On her birthday, the widow Maria's grown-up children organise a surprise dinner. They do not know that their mother has taken up with the Greek local resident Nikos. This day, too, Maria runs into him in the soft winter light. He invites her over to his house, but because she is expecting guests she invites him for a drink. The family ties are put under pressure when her children unanimously show their aversion to their mother's new love. The quiet pace of the film mirrors Maria's soothing character.
