Detlef Sierck

Detlef Sierck (1897 - 1987) was a stage and film director. In World War II, he ended up, via Rotterdam, Vienna and Rome, in the United States, where under the name Douglas Sirk he rose to fame as a director of melodramas. He returned to Germany in 1959. Under his original name, he took up his drama work again. Under his new name, he taught at the Munich film school.
