Documentary on the controversial composer Matthijs Vermeulen.
The works of composer Matthijs Vermeulen (1888-1967) were considered unplayable during his lifetime. He never heard an orchestral performance of many of his works during his lifetime. This was not just because of his strange harmonies. The music reviews he wrote for e.g. De Telegraaf and De Groene Amsterdammer, did not make him popular with the leading conductor Willem Mengelberg. Vermeulen withdrew disappointed to France, the country of the composers he so loved.
