Short impression of Zikr, a age-old ritual war dance.
The Zikr dance is an age-old ritual war dance from the Caucasus that still exists despite a many conquerors. In the middle of war-torn houses in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, Jos de Putter filmed a group of men dancing the Zikr. The pictures of the war dance cum lament show how the men go into a trance and how the dance bares their soul. Zikr was made from material shot for the documentary The Making of a New Empire.
