Yildiz

Director: Ayla Çekin Satijn
Short magic-realist drama about a Turkish-Dutch girl who hopes God can save her from her arguing parents. Her fantasy turns out to be the only really safe place.
The Turkish-Dutch Yildiz is passionately playbacking in her Barbie-pink princess’ room. As usual, her parents are arguing downstairs. At school, she is lost in thought. Then, a text draws her attention: God can help. After school, she enters a church and prays peace will come to her house. In vain. When she gets back home and announces she wants to go to Holy Communion, the fat is in the fire and her mother flies into a blind rage. The only place where Yildiz feels safe is her fantasy. There she can be who she wants to be and watches over everyone like a star.
