The canoe is not coincidentally red - or is it - in the compilations of sculptor and diary-style filmmaker Edward Luyken. Like a leitmotif, it keeps resurfacing in the fragmentary, fast sequences. The diary excerpts have titles like Celvast, Bridal Bed en Missing Link. Luyken appears to be a passionate canoeist, who has passed on his skill to both his sons Thomas and Lucas.
