Documentary about the consequences of senile dementia. For four years documentary maker Ireen van Ditshuyzen followed several Amsterdammers who suffered from a form of senility. They were taking part in the recently completed Amstel Project, a lenghty and large-scale investigation into early Alzheimer's disease. The film was shot in phases and shows how the diagnosis turned the lives of four inhabitants upside down and was the start of a painful and turbulent last phase of life. Alongside the stories of patients and their parents, it also looks at medical aspects of senility and the role of professional care.
