When record producer Johnny Hoes heard Mary Servaes sing for the first time, he did not know whether he was listening to a child, a man or a woman. 'I couldn't give a name to it.' So, from then on the uncrowned queen of the tearjerker was called Zangeres Zonder Naam (Singer without a Name). She passed away in 1998, some time after quitting her singing career. Director Michiel van Erp shows how she lived and lives on in the eyes of her most loyal fans, (former) producers and housekeeper. Conversations with acquaintances are alternated with footage of TV and pub performances and excerpts from a radio interview with Servaes. Vergeet mij niet is an unadorned yet moving portrait of a ‘unique phenomenon’, who made ‘strapping fellows shake like a leaf’.
