The army was their life, but after coming home they could not reconnect with society. Who are the men and women who found a shelter at Home Base Veterans, a port of refuge for veterans with chronic PTSD?
‘Fighting for peace. It took me some time to really grasp what that means’, Peter says in this moving documentary. The film portrays a group of Dutch army veterans suffering from chronic PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), who have sought refuge in care group Home Base Veterans in the woods of Drenthe. Sincerely and candidly, they talk about their demons and their struggle to re-engage with civilian society after their peace missions. Filmmaker Marjoleine Boonstra serenely visualises their intense experiences, making the viewer feel what PTSD entails.
