Psychological drama, based on Frederik van Eeden’s novel. The film tells the history of a frustrated upper-class girl. From a failed marriage and a subsequent crush on a composer, with whom she has a child that soon dies, she eventually ends up in the Parisian gutter as a morphine hooker. The director has given the film its own character by providing Van Eeden’s naturalist novel with a feminist angle.
