Alban lives in Amsterdam with his Albanian mother when he starts a relationship with a Serbian girl. When his mother meets her parents, mum’s war past threatens to upend her life.

Eighteen-year-old Alban is an outsider. He is short-tempered and has been expelled from several schools. He likes to spend time on the rooftop; his safe haven. Alban lives with his Albanian mother Zana in Amsterdam. Zana has a war past, but has tucked away her traumas. Earning a living while keeping Alban out of trouble offers sufficient distraction. The fact that Alban starts a relationship with a Serbian girl is no problem for the teenagers, but a meeting with her parents threatens to turn Zana’s world upside down.
