In 2010, Rotterdam was the point of departure for the Tour de France. This short documentary offers a humorous glimpse into the cycling-loving heart of the people of Rotterdam. Will the Tour come up to their high expectations? Documentary-maker Michiel van Erp introduces various people from Rotterdam who do their best to make the opening day a success. Like former mayor Ivo Opstelten, who took the initiative for the event. The former French teacher Leen, who sets himself up as an interpreter. Rabobank officials who explore the limits of advertising. The municipal workers that have to fence off the track. They all have to meet the strict demands set by the Tour management. A touching aside is added by the members and former members of the centenarian Rotterdam cycling club De Pedaalridders. Some of them once participated in the Tour, other were forced to quit or came to ruin. Their petites histoires are warm marginal notes in the strictly organised circus of the Grand Départ.
