Picture of the latter days of the war, from D-Day to the shooting incident in Amsterdam on 7 May 1945, after the official end of hostilities.
Documentary about the latter days of World War II which starts with a reconstruction of the events on Dam Square in Amsterdam on 7 May 1945. From the balcony of the Grand Club, German soldiers suddenly opened fire on a crowd of Amsterdammers celebrating the liberation. Authentic photo and film footage, from the Netherlands Film Museum, the Imperial War Museum and the Bundesarchiv, is juxtaposed with dramatised fragments. Wandering through the film are a British soldier, a member of the resistance and a hideaway who tries to keep the war at bay by playing the piano. They all eventually end up on the Dam on that notorious 7 May.
