In the rise of modern mass tourism, the importance of authentic experiences increasingly seems to give way to merely capturing them. What is lost in the quest for the perfect shot?
It’s a painful contrast: in the search for genuine experiences, more and more tourists lose themselves in the endless pursuit of the perfect Instagram shot. While we collectively share a need for authentic experiences, tourists seem to visit places mainly through the lenses of their phones. As they gather in large numbers at the world’s most wondrous locations, they increasingly become alienated from what they are actually experiencing. When we risk everything for the perfect picture or a trend, what are we really capturing? A short, reflective documentary about the downside of the perfect holiday photo.
