The Queen Who Was Actually a Fish

Director: Fenne Maurer
To win the approval of her kingdom, a queen hides her true nature. In this animation, it works until she must choose between keeping her current royal life or surviving as herself.
In this fairy-tale-like graduation animation about people-pleasing behaviour in women, a queen goes to great lengths to win the admiration of her kingdom. She says 'yes' to every request from her subjects and smiles politely at everyone. But she only takes on this self-effacing role because she's hiding a secret: she's actually a fish. Every time someone crosses her boundaries, more scales appear on her skin, until she's finally forced to make a choice: lose herself, or finally allow herself to be who she truly is.
