The Line

Director: Andreea Dumitriu
A long procession of pilgrims traverses the Romanian town of Iaşi. They wait for their turn to prey at the site dedicated to Saint Parascheva. But in the line itself they already find connection and meaning.
Every year in mid-October. Some 250,000 pilgrims from all over Romania head for the town of Iaşi, where they will find the relics of the female Saint Parascheva. Together, they form a three-to-four-mile-long line every day that runs straight through town. This debut follows the human procession from start to finish, not only exploring the physical stamina the waiting requires, but also the unexpected room for connection the parade provides. As the hours pass, participants share their convictions and personal struggles with whoever happens to walk beside them.
