The categories male and female are questioned by artist Philipp Gufler. While he does a famous performance, a second screen shows archive footage of norm-breaking forms of queer and transgender sexuality.
It starts with two colour fields. One light blue, the other pink. Colours that we in the Western world associate with the male and female sexes. But is this dichotomy so easy to make? This is what artist Philipp Gufler plays with in this short, experimental film, giving a twist to the man-woman divide by using archive footage of androgynous bodies and Gufler’s personal defiant performance. The voice-over reads a text from 19th century pioneer of the third sex theory, author Karl Heinrich Ulrichs.
