One of the oldest circus families in the Netherlands has been declared bankrupt, until son Tonie makes a fresh start with Wintercircus Royal. In the lead-up to opening night, we follow his search for a place within his family and the circus world.

After family business Wintercircus Royal went bankrupt, Tonie does his best to make a fresh start. He wants to do better than his father, retired circus director Joop. But Joop can't quite let go of either the circus or his son. Caught in a love-hate relationship, father and son work towards opening night. This debut is an intimate documentary portrait of a son searching for his father's validation, while having already outgrown him.
