Abdi asks his neighbour, filmmaker Douwe Dijkstra, to make a movie about his life as a refugee. This candid documentary shows how, with unexpected technology, they use the grim past to take new steps in the present.
Abdi is from Somalia, he is a furniture designer and a social worker. And he is a refugee with a past marked by war and crime. How can you learn to understand a violent life? Helped by filmmaker Douwe Dijkstra, he wants to tell his story to get a grip on his life, then and now. In a special effects studio, they jointly go on a trip and make playful reconstructions of Abdi’s painful history. The creative process is an important part of the film.
