This short poetical documentary immerses the viewer in the surrealist world of the Rotterdam port, where the boundary between man and machine gets blurred.
Man and machine merge in the technological setting of the port of Rotterdam. Sailors spend months at sea in transit, solely connected to the outside world through their telephones. Between working and resting, the local chaplain pays an occasional visit, or people lose themselves in comforting karaoke.Poetic images take the viewer along through the harbour, where longing and the struggle with technological environments are incisively explored. How fragile are human connections in a world that constantly strives for more? We make things, and how do the things we make make us?
