What moves a human being to campaign for 45 years against the construction and widening of a road through a forest? And how pernicious is this for your private life? Welcome to Amelisweerd.
For almost half a century, Jos Kloppenborg and Jan Korff de Gidts have been resisting the construction and widening of the A27 motorway running across a Utrecht patch of urban forest called Amelisweerd. Who are these campaigners and what makes Amelisweerd so important to them? What do years of activism do to your private life and what is in it for you? Is it prestige, eternal fame, is it idealism? Besides, when battling the almighty state for years, you run the risk of growing embittered.
