Industrial film commissioned by the Shell Film Unit in London. In broad outlines, the film reflects man's struggle against the insect, vector of disease and cause of destruction, which eventually threatens to disrupt the global food stocks. International collaboration and insecticides bring relief. Shot in India, Venezuela, Africa and elsewhere, featuring shots of a swarm of locusts from a plane. In 1956, Haanstra went to Venezuela to lead Shell's film unit.
