Ava did not marry Farid out of love, but out of loyalty. Their fathers fought together against the Iranian regime. Farid's father was executed, while Ava's father managed to escape. Out of guilt, he asked Ava to marry Farid. But the years spent in a sham marriage have been suffocating for her. She breaks things off with Farid. With nothing left to stay for, he flees to England. But he, too, will have to break with the past in his own way.
