Shelley is a timid elderly lady who participates in the Miss Senior USA elections. This immerses her in an extravagant world that also touches upon the universal need for being seen, beauty and counting for something.
Her exploration of unusual worlds takes Sophie Dros (King of the Cruise) to the Miss Senior USA pageant. It seems hysterical and absurd, but behind the glitter and wrinkles a story hides about decay and visibility, insecurity and dreams, and about distorted aesthetic ideals. When 62-year-old Shelley decides to participate in the pageant, it sparks off a road trip, both literally and emotionally. Her van filled with dresses and beauty cases, she sets out. A journey full of photo ops and sisterhood, zest for life and pride on stage.
