Schoft

Director: Heinrich Dahms
With the hard-boiled realism of the street, Schoft tells the story of a boy whose sole remaining purpose is smoking pot, boozing and sex. Ed has just been fired and is dumped by his girlfriend. Nothing he ever does succeeds and that is everybody's fault except Ed's. The film contrasts his story with that of Hassan, a restrained boy who has just heard he has been admitted to university. But Hassan's father has other plans for him. The film takes the two plotlines to an inevitable climax, when the lives of Ed and Hassan cross one another and their worlds will never be the same again. The film evokes an underworld of extreme nihilism you can only escape through drugs, sex and violence. A world you cannot get a grip on with the usual rewards and penalties. And with which the well-organized upper world clashes now and then. Always with serious consequences.
