Sani is a Roma, born in Prisztina, Kosovo. After the war in 1999, around 100,000 Roma fled because the nationalist Albanians threatened them, sometimes murdered them and razed thousands of houses to the ground. Since then, Sani is uprooted. He can’t live in Kosovo: there is no work, no home, nothing. He loves his American wife Carol and their child in California, but he feels at home in Europe. That’s where his family lives.
Sani and his wife founded the Voice of Roma organisation to collect money for the Roma in Kosovo. He sees to it that not a cent gets lost or ends up in the wrong pockets. He travels around and gives dancing classes and lectures about the Roma. He annually helps organise a big party, the proceedings of which go to the Roma. Filmmaker Rolf Orthel accompanied Sani for years on his endless search. Where does he belong? Where will he find peace?
