This light-hearted tragedy is a film version of the novel by Cees Nooteboom. After a stock-exchange crash, a forty-year-old man loses his fortune and his girlfriend on one day. Disorientatedly searching for security, he becomes obsessed through a friend with Japanese rituals of faith, death and eroticism.
