Documentary in which the director travelled to Northern England in search of traces of history along the old Settle-Carlisle railway track.
When director Peter Delpeut was asked when the happiest moment in his life was, he recalled the moment when he was sitting on a bench in Northern England. It had been put there to commemorate a deceased person, In Loving Memory. Now he returns to the region, in search of traces of history along the old Settle-Carlisle railway track. This track, with its enormous viaduct and other features, was once constructed with considerable effort, taking several lives. It is still a source of pride for the inhabitants of the region. But bit by bit Delpeut turns his search to the memorial benches and the stories behind them. Just like the railway track, they refer to the past. The beauty of the hills, the atmosphere of memories and the train journeys bring about a meditative, reflective tone.
