The youth series Pipo de clown - broadcast by Vara TV between 1958 and 1978 - evokes childhood memories in many people over thirty. Although the colourful art direction, in the vein of the TV series, is still reminiscent of the atmosphere of the thirties, the film has been tailored to modern times. A rushing journalist, for example, reports on Pipo's adventures. Shot in Spain, the film tells the story of how Pipo (Joep Dorren) abandons the circus with his 'family relatives' Mammaloe and daughter Petra, and travels in his house trailer to his aunt, to help her unmask a ghost. Pipo and his chums are followed on their heels by ringmaster Dikke Deur in his chugging T-Ford who, accompanied by two scoundrels, tries to fetch back his clown. It turns out that in Pipo's aunt's village, a curious rumble is emanating from a castle. After five centuries of sleeping soundly, a knight awakes there.
