Pembe & Eflatun

Director: Alix Bortoli, Dal Park
The year: 2130. Once-fertile Anatolia is now barren and lifeless. Ships full of war refugees 'sail' across the sand in this sand animation, in which it's the women, above all, who bring new hope.
By 2130, the Turkish peninsula of Anatolia has turned into a desert. Transport now relies on large ships that can sail across the sand. On a scorching morning, innkeepers Pembe and Eflatun, a married couple, tend to their twins in a former prison, while two galleys carrying war deserters and children come aboard. A feminist-tinged sand animation, based on Hande Ortaç's short story, which won first prize in a competition organised by one of Turkey's largest LGBTQI+ rights organisations.
