Glimpse behind the scenes of travelling theatre festival De Parade. About the whirligig and the pancake bakery, but primarily about the theatre makers, who go back to basics here.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2015, De Parade is the largest travelling theatre festival in the world. Visitors wander to and fro between the whirligig, the poffertjes (tiny pancakes) bakery and bright drinking stalls. They are directly accosted by theatre makers, who try to win over the audience with a dance and a song and proceed to sweep them along to another world: that of the imagination. In summertime, this close-knit community of performers and artists travels from city to city, but in this documentary you can see what happens behind the scenes: from the programmers to whom ideas are pitched to the realisation of the performances. And despite its 25 years, De Parade is still of this time and, according to the young theatre guns, 'raw, innovative and confrontational’.
