Judge gets entangled in his Antilian wife's past.
The Amsterdam judge Nico Venema dearly loves his wife, the Antillian Shirley Zaandam. Together they bring up the two sons of Shirley's sister Magda, because their situation on the island of Curaçao was impossible. When Magda comes to Holland to fetch her children, Nico becomes embroiled in a family battle filled with secrets, recriminations and puzzles. He finds out painfully that he only knows his wife superficially. Shirley turns out to share a violent past with Magda in which murder played a major role.
